Halstead Road Runners started their 2018 running in style yesterday at Great Notley parkrun. Conditions were extremely muddy and wet underfoot but that, and the previous night’s celebrations, didn’t deter the runners. Lizzie Griffiths made a welcome come back to do her first parkrun. Andy and Wendy Carter both finished first in their respective age categories.

New Year’s Day offers a unique opportunity to do the parkrun double with events starting at both 9.00 am and 10.30 am. Most of the Halstead Road Runners who ran at Great Notley headed off to the later Chelmsford event. A hardy foursome of Wes Atkins, Nathan Roulson, Rachael Roughan and Sam Wolton ran the 10 miles between the two events managing to complete the Chelmsford course before the tail runner. This took their total mileage for the morning to over 16. Other runners to do the double (but who sensibly drove between) were Anna Bambridge, Karl Hillman, Jo Roulson and Nicole Smith.

There is a good write up on the Great Notley parkrun website of the double event including photos of Halstead runners.

I attach a photo taken by one of our own runners (Tom Porter) of our runners before the start of the Great Notley parkrun.

Happy New Year to you all.
