A small group from Halstead Road Runners made their way to London on Saturday 24th February to brave the difficult conditions in the National Cross Country Championships on Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath.  This iconic race is the goal for athletes from all over the country, this year 9742 a record number entered to run over 8 races.

The Senior ladies race, a distance of 8km had 1113 finishers.  Rachael Roughan put in a star performance, placing 497th in a time of 40.28, being first in for Halstead again.

Anna Bambridge ran strong to finish 783rd in 45.11 with Wendy Carter putting in a determined effort on this course, which she has ran many times before, finishing 842nd in 46.26.

Rob Frost, the only representative in the Senior Men’s race over 12km placed 1430th out of 2328 finishers.

Sunday saw Stewart Ellis back on form with a sterling performance at the Headcorn Half Marathon held in Maidstone, Kent. Ellis battled very windy conditions to finish in 1 hour 25 minutes, the best result for him for over a year.
