Richard Candler completed his first marathon in Sunday’s popular Abingdon Marathon. The Oxfordshire marathon now in its 35th year attracts a sell out field of 1,200 athletes, with the 26.2 mile course notoriously fast. Richard’s lack of marathon running experience didn’t affect him as he ran a faultless race, running consistent splits throughout. The debutant was delighted to finish in 3:11:37. Stewart Ellis had been in preparation for this race for months clocking up 60+ training miles a week with a target of 3:05, however his race was in jeopardy as he picked up a hamstring injury during his training 5 weeks ago. Despite this, a delighted Ellis romped home in a PB of 3:07:10.
