Halstead hosted the third race of the 53-12 sponsored Cross Country League at a rather wet and windy Broakes Wood, Gosfield on Sunday. A bumper turn out of 308 senior athletes competed over the 5 mile muddy course, whilst 102 junior runners competed over a shorter distance.

Prior to the senior race start a minutes silence was impeccable observed in memory of local runner Mark Furnace, a member of Ipswich Jaffa’s running club, who tragically passed away last week.

Halstead ladies took 1st place in pool B with Hazel Buist and Mel Candler scoring, whilst in the mens race the team scores were Nathan Roulson, Juan De Gea, Bob Langley and Andrew Warner who finished second in their pool. The results leave Halstead second in pool B, just one point behind Witham Running Club with 3 races left.

Saturday saw Halstead Neil Wilson run in Chelmsford 5k Park run, finishing in 19:37
