Winning Start For Cross Country Team

Sunday marked the first race of the 53-12 cross country season for Halstead Road Runners.  The first of the 6 race meeting series got underway at Notley Country Park, with over 300 athletes from clubs across the county taking on the 5 mile course.

Halstead in Pool B, had a team of 6 ladies and 15 men.  The ladies team finishing 1st and the mens team 3rd, meaning Halstead go straight to the top of the Pool B table.  Impressive displays once again from Kathryn Bronson and Megan Hollinshead in the ladies and a resurgent Bradley Doe and Stewart Ellis for the men.  The cross country team will be looking to maintain their position on the 16th November at Abbey Fields, Colchester. Marathon regulars Dan Smith, Rosie Atkins and Andy Wilmot took on the Brentwood Marathon in Weald Park on Sunday.  The 12 lap wet, muddy undulating course was testing to say the least, however all 3 ran solid races with Rosie Atkins even managing a PB.

Sunday also saw second claim elite member Gavin Allen complete the Stort 30.  This 30 mile marathon ultra was run along the towpath  of the river Stort, Gavin running strongly finished 5th in a time of 3:41.

Jim Leaney and Aaron Heard ran the 5k Notley Park Run on Saturday.  Jim Leaney still recovering from a broken leg was piped to the line by Aaron Heard.
