Age Group Honours for John and Paul

Halstead’s Road Runners Triathletes took on the Newmarket Sprint Triathlon on Sunday. John Markham, Paul Frindle and Wendy Carter battled over the multi sport discipline of a 300m Swim, 22K bike and 4K run.

Paul Frindle started well with a strong swim putting him a minute ahead of John Markham with Wendy Carter only 24 seconds further back. However Paul Frindle couldn’t maintain this lead on the bike stage and lost 40 seconds to Markham. That left him needing a strong run to hold off the challenge of his team mate, however John Markham ran a strong run and was able to pip Paul Frindle to the line finishing in 1:11:23, 2 minutes ahead of Paul Frindle in 1:13:21. The pair took age group honours finishing 1st and 2nd in the M55-59 age category.

Wendy Carter performed well in only her 4th triathlon finishing in a time of 1:20:09 placing 97th overall, 21st female and 2nd in her 50-54 age category.

Marathon duo Andy Wilmot and Dan Smith made it 2 marathons in 2 weeks as they battled the warm sunny conditions in Sundays Flitch Way Marathon. Starting at Great Notleys Discovery Centre this race follows the Flitch Way to Takely before heading back to the finish and the large hill at the Discovery Centre. Andy Wilmot as consistent as ever managed a 4:15, while Dan Smith was a few minutes outside his PB finishing in 4:37
