Halstead Road Runners home 53-12 Cross Country League fixture offered a true cross country course for visiting runners. Starting in the grounds of Gosfield School the course then enters Broaks Woods for 3 miles where conditions were nice and muddy before runners finish with another mile long lap of the school playing fields.
Gosfield local, Caroliena Cameron, was the first lady back for Halstead finishing in an impressive 18th position with Kathryn Bronson also putting in a strong scoring performance in 30th. The ladies’ team included recent new members Charlotte King (46th) and Lizzie Masters (65th).
The men’s race was competitive at the front end with Bradley Doe (34th) and Jim Clark (35th) jostling for position with Doe just gaining the edge on his return to the cross country scene. The remaining scorers for the men were Stewart Ellis (39th) and Richard Candler (48th). Wesley Atkins missed a scoring position by seconds finishing just behind Candler in 49th.
Halstead retain their position of second in Pool B in the league behind Hadleigh Hares and still have some work to do if they are to gain promotion to Pool A next year. Full results are available on the 53-12 League website at www.53-12xc.com
Away from home, Dan Smith opted for the warm and sunny coastline of Lanzarote on Saturday to run a marathon. The course followed the coast from Costa Teguise to Playa Blanca and back with Smith finishing in 4 hours and 48 minutes.
