The Halstead Road Runner men turned out in force for the second of the 53-12 cross country fixtures at East Newhall Farm in Harwich. The recent crisp weather meant that the course was firm underfoot compared to previous years which was welcomed by the runners. The men finished a consistent second in Division 2 with the scorers led by in form Jim Clark (37th), followed by Nathan Roulson (66th), Bob Langley (77th) and Jon Greenley (85th). The rest of the team was made up of Andrew Warner, Dan Hollinshead and Sam Wolton with Mike Grealy, Richard Tiller and Sam Wilson packing closely together at the finish. Adam Buckle was not far behind with a great cross country debut.

The ladies may have come in last place but it was close competition between all 6 teams in Division 2 with only 23 points separating Halstead and the leaders 53-12. Melanie Candler (36th) and club stalwart Lorraine Garnham (44th) were the scoring ladies with Nicole Smith and Treena Harrington finishing in succession.

Heidi Worf saw the benefit of her recent training by knocking an impressive 6 minutes off her previous personal best at the Bedford Harriers Half Marathon in Wootton. Heidi finished in a time of 2 hours and 16 minutes and is targeting further improvement at her next half marathon in February.

Several of the club’s members are regulars at the Great Notley Park Run which is a free weekly 5k on Saturday morning at Great Notley Country Park. John Warne ran his 100th Park Run this week earning his black milestone t-shirt with Ladies’ Captain, Charlotte May, securing her purple 25th volunteer milestone t-shirt for her contribution to ensuring the event can take place every week.
