The Autumn sunshine made for warm conditions for runners this weekend. A large number of Road Runners were at the Springfield Striders Pleshey Half Marathon which once again played host to the Essex Half Marathon Championships. Andy Owen was first back for the club in 1 hour 28 minutes. Jon Greenley finished in 1 hour 37 minutes. Steve May (1:41:46) then pipped Rachael Roughan (1:41:47) to the line with only a second separating them.

Stuart Ashworth had a fantastic run knocking 4 minutes off his previous best to finish in 1 hour 50 minutes. Heidi Hibbett also set a great personal best (1:54:40) with Nicole Smith just ahead of her (1:54:11).

The inaugural Great East Run in Ipswich, also Half Marathon distance, saw over 2,000 runners crossing the finish line. Simon Humphrey was first back for the Road Runners in 1 hour 42 minutes. Karl Hillman and Caroliena Cameron crossed the line in 1 hour 48 minutes with Hillman getting the better of Cameron by 23 seconds. Treena Harrington enjoyed the new course and was happy with her time of 2 hours 6 minutes.

John Warne raced the picturesque Ikano Bank Robin Hood Half Marathon with his son. Warne finished in 1 hour and 52 minutes.

Andy Wilmot did the Kings Forest Trail Marathon just outside Bury St Edmunds. Wilmot completed the 2 lap off road course, which actually totalled 27 and a half miles, in 5 hours and 5 minutes.

Finally, congratulations to club Chairman Paul Hinsley who scored a fantastic new marathon pb at the prestigious Berlin Marathon, one of the World Marathon Majors. Hinsley finished in 3 hours and 24 minutes.
