Amazing Andy Completes his Triple 10 in 10 at Barrow

Halstead’s marathon running legend Andy Wilmot entered another very elite club on Saturday as he became one of only 4 in the UK to have completed triple 10 marathons in 10 consecutive days at Barrow, Suffolk. Saturday saw the culmination of 10 days of marathons at the Great Barrow Challenge, starting and finishing each day in Barrow near Bury St Edmunds. Heavy rain meant that the 5 testing trail routes ran twice were heavy going with conditions very wet underfoot. The 10 marathons edge Andy ever closer to the incredible number of 700 marathons completed. Speaking after Wilmot said ‘I’m pleased to have finished, it was tough going. I’m looking forward to my next marathon in a few weeks. Dan Smith joined Wilmot for 6 of the 10 days, including 4 marathons in 4 days to pass the 50 marathon milestone.

Nicole Smith, Stewart Ellis and Danny Hewitt once again kicked off precedings as the took part in the Friday 5 series, this week from Great Bentley. Nicole Smith bagged a PB with a fine run.

Mike Grealy once again attended the Great Cornard Park Run on Saturday morning as he prepared for the Essex Championship 10k race next week at Felsted, finishing in 21:48.

Caroliena Cameron warmed up for Sunday’s Gosfield Triathlon with a 3rd place overall in Gosfields 5k Fun Run on Saturday. In her main event on Sunday over distances of a 750m open water swim, 22k Bike and 5k run, Caroliena finished well in a cumulative time of 1:37:54. Also competing were husband and wife duo Richard and Mel Candler. Mel finished in 1:29:34 to take 7th place while Richard also finished 7th in his age category.

A large HRR presence attended Sunday’s Stort 5 and 10 mile trial races at Hatfield Forest. In the 5 mile event Jim Clark fin shed in 4th overall. Whilst Roger Frampton set his fastest time over the 10 mile distance in over 40 years and Charlotte May ran her first race at 10 miles.
