A record field of over 400 athletes celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the 53-12 Cross Country League at Abbey Fields Colchester on Sunday. Halstead fielded 21 runners on a very cold, crisp morning, which marked the 1st race of the season league.

In the women’s race Hazel Buist ran superbly on the last lap of 3 to overhaul Mel Candler as they crossed the line in 32nd and 33rd out of the 160 women in action, to claim 2nd place in Pool B. Meanwhile the men’s team packed really well, with Richard Candler leading the way in 52nd out of 258 men, followed by Jim Clark 56th, Wes Atkins 62nd and Nathan Roulson 66th. The men also finished 2nd in Pool B, with a target of promotion back to Pool A.

Away from the Cross Country League, there was yet another bumper turnout for Saturdays Great Notley Park Run. A bitterly cold morning didn’t deter the 10 or so Halstead Road Runners from tackling the tough 5k course. Megan Hollinshead was the pick of the results as she claimed age group honours with a fantastic run, finishing in 27.12.
